You Don't Have to be an Expert at Something

You don’t have to be an expert at something before you start your business or to have clients.

Why?

You have your own ‘unique voice’ that will resonate to the right people.

Let me give you an example.

We all know who Tony Robbins is.

An expert motivational and performance coach, probably the best I ever known in the personality development niche.

Here’s the thing.

If every man thinks he’s the best, why would people choose John Maxwell, Bob Cractor or any other motivational speakers out there, instead of Tony Robbins?

Let that sink in for a while.

We all have ‘unfair’ share in this world.

Or Market. Or niche. Whatever you want to call it.

Notice, that I say ‘unfair’ share. That’s because you cannot have it all. These what they call ‘experts’ cannot have it all as well.

You know why?

Often, we are told to choose the niche or market to serve.

Yeah, that’s true and I can’t argue with that.

But there is something missing here.

‘People are choosing you’ more than ‘you are choosing them’ .

“So why do I care if you choose me?”

“What’s in it for me?”

“Who are you by the way?”

These are the questions people often ask themselves. And it includes YOU.

It’s your job to tell them the ‘good reason’ why would they waste their time with you.

Another thing.

You don’t need to be an expert for ‘everyone’.

As what Tim Ferris said in his book, 4 Hour Workweek, to be an expert “in the context of selling product means that you know more about the topic than the purchaser.”

That explains a lot right?

Being expert is a ‘status’.

A status given by others. Not a title you proclaimed to yourself.

Remove the word ‘expert’ in your vocabulary. Scrape that thing out, man.

It’s not your job. Period.

What to do instead?

Forget about being the best, the expert in your field (that’s being self-centered).

Instead focus on giving your audience the best they deserve.

(Having money coming in because you solve their problem is much better that being called an expert.)

End.
