Welcome to QSI Toastmasters Club!
Brief Introduction: This is the break by break Speech Draft that I delivered for the incoming new members for QSI Toastmasters Club. I used the A.I.D.A. formula for the speech framework. A.I.D.A. stands for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. Please do provide comments on how to improve. Thanks!

Mission Statement
I will help the new members of Toastmasters Club to gain confidence in public speaking.
Attention: (Get their attention. Something that will perk their ears up)
[Tell the story When Mam Rhea Invited me to host the event]
“Joel, I want you to be the emcee for our 2nd Quantity Surveyors Cup or Golf Tournament.”
Interest: (Get them some interesting facts, uses, stories, case studies)
I was shocked. Ma’am Rhea, our Vice President and the mother of QSI, asked me to be the emcee for the 2nd Quantity Surveyor’s Cup Golf Tournament.
Hearing that was like a shotgun proposal to me.
At the back of my mind, a lot of questions comes in. (lingers)
…Do I have the guts to stand on the stage in front of the strangers and worse it is a crowd of executives ranging from CEO to Company Owners? Yikes!
…I don’t have perfect English. I am not fluent in English and my pronunciation and dictation sucks
…I have so many “ep and fi, baliball, and vasketball”
…I feel like throwing up whenever I see myself on stage. My knees are trembling and can’t help myself from shaking due to nervousness.
… I stutter whenever I saw people/audience are all on eyes on me.
My ocean of doubts about myself was temporarily shut down when Mam Rhea asked me again.
“Joel, will you be the host?”
I can’t help my self replying with these syllables.
“Ohhh-Kayyy-Maaam…”
After that, I keep on thinking about what will I do. The feeling of being in an elite environment with elite people is beyond my comfort zone.
But I have to convince myself that I can do it. I have to prepare -mentally and emotionally.
And the day of the event arrives. It’s time for the awarding ceremony. I and my partner Yna were getting agitated as the hour is coming near.
I keep on reading the reading and reading my notes. Trying to familiarize.
Gladly, the event went well. Despite me saying,
…Sharf TV instead of Sharp TV
…Barnard instead of Bernard
Transition: (Make it smooth)
And I owe it to Toastmasters.
Desire: (Make them desire the results.)
[Tell clients how Toastmaster helps you improve your public speaking and how it can help them too.]
Thanks to Toastmasters, I improved a lot. I may not be as good as the famous speakers you know. But I am working in progress. That’s what I like about Toastmasters.
They create pathways that make you improve over time. You don’t have to pressure yourself. You can do it at your own pace. But even though you can take it on your time, you should have a goal.
You don’t what topic to tell/share on your speech? Don’t worry. Everyone has stories to tell. Use your personal experiences.
You don’t know how to write a speech either prepared or impromptu? There are formulas you can use that will make your life easier
Crippled by stage fright? Fight your inner villain and use a psychological hack to launch your speech in 5 seconds
Need to advise on how to improve your speaking skills and speech writing? We have “Speech Gurus” that will guide us along the way.
And a lot more.
Forget about the filler words like ah and uhm, time limit and grammar. They are helpful indeed.
But our primary goal is that each and every one of us will develop confidence. Become an effective communicator an listener, both characteristics of a great leader.
That’s why the tagline of Toastmasters club is “Where leaders are made”
But believe me or not, there is already a seed of leadership planted in you. We just have to nurture it. We just need to good soil — which is Toastmasters.
Action: (Hand-hold them to take the action you want)
[Make them feel that they make the right decision and make a move to improve their current state]
And I would like to congratulate each and everyone for making the first step and take the pathways.
You are in the right direction. Keep going.
