You Are Like A Glass Jar of M&M’s

Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.

Imagine there’s a clear glass jar in front of you. It’s empty.

Now, imagine I am filling up the jar with M&M’s Chocolate Candies. As I filled it up, it is obvious that from an empty jar, now it’s a jar full of M&M’s.

This is how our life works. The jar is you. The M&M’s are your habits.

OUR HABITS DEFINE WHO WE ARE

The Greek philosopher Aristotle said,

We are what we repeatedly do.

Well, it’s definitely true.

Every M&M’s you put in the jar represents the action you do on a daily basis. These actions you repeatedly do become your identity.

James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, pointed out that

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your identity. This is why habits are crucial. They cast repeated votes for being a type of person.” [Source]

I couldn’t agree more.
