It’s been almost two months since I am promoting the QSI Toastmasters Club, giving you all the reasons why you should join.

This time I would like to share with you 3 reasons why you shouldn’t join the QSI Toastmasters Club.

Reason №1: You believe you already a good speaker and you don’t need training anymore. You believe that you can do it on your own.

The primary reason why most of the members join the club is they want to overcome their fear of public speaking or the difficulty of telling their message.

Of course, you can do it on your own by trial and error. You can read books and watch videos about how to improve your speaking skills. Sure, you will improve if you apply what you will learn but it will take time.

I knew this because I have tried this. I let my ego tells me that I can do it on my own. But there is something I realized. There is something missing — feedback.

This is what I love about Toastmasters Club. Someone that will tell me that I am doing what is effective. Someone that tells me that I can improve by providing me areas for improvement.

A good example is when I receive an evaluation that when I deliver my speech I have “stoic face”. At first, I was skeptical about the findings. Then, when I deliver another speech, I got the same evaluation. I have “plain, emotionless, stoic face.” Okay, it might be true. But still not convince. Until I watch my self on a video recording me delivering a speech.

It was painful to watch! (Haha). Though, I was practicing my speech beforehand, the result was the opposite of what I intended it to be. It was boring. My face is stiff as frozen meat.

After that, I realized I will take considerations feedback from others. Because they can see what you fail (or deny) to see.

Reason No.2: You cannot commit at least 1.5 hours a week to enhanced your skills.

Apart from the tons of assignments and deadlines, you have to meet, joining the Toastmasters Club can be an extra workload for you. It’s true. It’s a reality.

The common reason I receive when some of the members cannot deliver their speech is because they don’t prepare a speech. The culprit — your work. Of course, it is a valid reason.

But here’s I want you to realize. It is in those uncomfortable efforts and moments that a person transforms from ordinary to extraordinary. It is was separates successful people from the wanna-be successful people. Adding extra effort.

Of course, it is easier said than done. That’s why I will let Darren Hardy, publisher of Success Magazine and author of The Compound Effect, explain this further. He said,

“What excites me about this reality, however, is that if the change were easy and everyone is doing it, it would be much more difficult for you and me to stand out and become an extraordinary success. Ordinary is easy. Extra-ordinary is will separate you from the crowd.”

Let that sink in for a while.

Reason No. 3: You think developing your communication and leadership skills is a waste of time.

If you have other priorities in life or skills that you want to achieve, other than what I mentioned earlier, then don’t join the club.

It is very unfair for yourself if you spent time for things that are not aligned with your goals.

But if I ask you, what areas of your life that you don’t need to lead, either others or yourself? What areas in your life that you don’t need to communicate with others. Look, humans are social beings.

Other than improving and overcoming your fear of public speaking, QSI Toastmasters Club will teach you how to be a great leader by being a great communicator. And when I said communicator, it does not mean you do all the talking. You need to be a great listener. It is a two-way process. It is given and take.

This is what QSI Toastmasters Club is all about. This is the reason why the tagline of the club is ‘Where leaders are made.” To be a better leader and communicator.

Is It Worth it?

You may ask, “Brian, is there a guarantee that I will improve when I join the Club?”

The answer is: Yes and No.

The first answer is Yes if you provide yourself the permission to grow better. Look, I don’t know what stage you are in your life now. Or the reason why you need to improve your leadership and communication skills. The fact that you consider it, I want to congratulate you. You have chosen the right path.

The second answer is No if you think change will happen overnight. I firmly believe in taking small step at a time is a slow but sure way to success. Believe in the Power of Compound Effect. It will take time but the rewards are significant and humongous.

Call to Action

With all the three reasons I provided for not joining the QSI Toastmasters Club, you have two choices to consider.

Stay where you are now and be happy being stagnant or challenge yourself and be a better version of yourself.

The choice is yours!
